Do dogs have to wear (personalised) collars?
Yes. All dogs in the UK need to wear a dog collar according to the Control of Dogs Order 1992 which states “every dog shall wear a collar with the name and address of the owner inscribed on the collar or on a plate or badge attached to it”. There are exceptions to this order for certain dogs including work dogs, service dogs, and guide dogs. This order is in place to return your dog safely to you if it gets lost, so it’s important to get a high-quality personalised collar that your dog can be comfortable in for long periods of time.
How do you measure for a dog collar?
To get a perfect fit for your dog's collar, it's important to measure the center of their neck accurately. Use a soft cloth tape measure or piece of string and place it at the part of their neck where the collar normally sits. Make sure the tape measure or string is snug, but not too tight. If you used string, use a rigid ruler to measure its length after. This will give you the size you need to state in your order.
Note: All our collars are adjustable, about 2 cm smaller and up to 5 to 6 cm larger than the necksize you tell 4Kyon.
For half check collars and martingale collars measure right behind the ears, on the smallest part of the neck.
How tight your dog’s collar needs to be will vary based on the breed and size of your dog, but a collar that’s too loose or too tight can cause you problems. There is a general rule of thumb you can use as a good starting point which is the two-finger rule. When the collar is fastened around your dog’s neck, you should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck. If it’s difficult to squeeze your fingers in, the collar is too tight. If your fingers do not stick between the neck and collar, it’s too loose. This rule should be adjusted to one finger for small dogs and three fingers for larger dogs. If you’re unsure before purchasing, please contact us on which size will fit your dog best based on neck size.
Can a dog wear a collar instead of a harness?
A good dog harness, like our AnnyX harnesses, is often the safest and most comfortable way to walk your dog because they fasten more securely and cover more of your dog to disperse pressure. While a good dog harness can make walks easier by distributing the load.
Not displaying your dog’s identification is against the law and many dog harnesses don’t have a place to display tags. Therefore choose our high-quality dog collar with embroidered name and number to use with your harness to make sure you’re covered.
